Overview

Quick Pitch

AEvice Health is a medical technology company revolutionizing healthcare for asthmatic children. We create smart wearable devices that empowers parents to have better control over their child’s asthma condition.

Product/Service Details

A small wireless sensor that is placed on a child’s chest to analyse acoustic signals that is emanated from the lungs. This data is then transmitted to the cloud real-time.

If an onset of an asthma attack is detected, parents will receive a notification through their mobile phones, prompting them to attend to their child as soon as possible. This data can also be shared with their paediatricians to better assess their child’s condition, so as to better titrate medications and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan.

Problem/Opportunity

Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children and affects 334 million people worldwide. On average, each patient spends approximately US$1,100 for emergency services and asthma medications annually. Patients suffer from a reduced quality of life as they are unable to participate in physical activities. In addition, their families often struggle with a combination of both financial and emotional challenges.

There is currently no gold standard test available for asthma diagnosis today. It is also common for children to not present any asthma symptoms at the time of their clinical visit. As a result, the current practice of asthma diagnosis depends heavily on a patient’s oral description, which is prone to recall errors or data manipulation by patients. This is especially challenging and subjective for young children and their caretakers. This is similar to other medical conditions that are not always clinically apparent and varies in symptoms over time. Diagnosis of asthma in primary care is therefore complex and requires a multifaceted process for confirmation of diagnosis – usually in the form of frequent consultations with clinicians.

Evidently, early diagnosis of asthma is key to controlling this chronic disease, where appropriate treatments are prescribed based on timely clinical data collected from a patient. This is compelling evidence that there needs to be an innovative solution for an objective means of monitoring and to aid clinicians in the assistive diagnosis process.

Solution

AEvice Health has developed a non-invasive wearable device that is placed on a child’s chest to provide clinicians with a longitudinal study on a patient’s key asthma symptoms such as wheezing, coughing and other physical attributes. This critical data can then be accessed through our integrated cloud-based app, enabling clinicians to adopt an evidence-based approach in designing an effective personalised treatment programme, thereby improving a patient’s outcome. The ability of our device to identify early asthma symptoms also empowers parents to better manage their children’s asthma conditions, reducing the occurrence of emergency visits to clinics/hospitals.

How We're Different

Using our proprietary technology, AEvice Health is currently the only wearable device that is capable of providing real-time monitoring and continuous surveillance of multiple asthma symptoms. Being situated in the Asia Pacific region, we have the ease of access to the Asia Pacific market where the asthma market is still largely untapped.
